It’s A Heart Thing

So often we make our faith about the stuff we should do. Did we read our bible, did we pray, did we go to church? Those things are important, but when we define ourselves by that we begin to lose our way. Circumcision on the surface seems weird and insignificant to us, but when we dive deeper it’s a window into our tendency to make our faith about us- when it was always and will always be about God.

Read Romans 2:25-29

  1. What is the significance of circumcision and why does it mean so much to the Jewish people? (Read Genesis 17:1-14 for reference if needed)

  1. We may not get focused on circumcision or “the law”, but what do you think we might have a tendency to let define us as “good Christians”, other than Christ?

  1. God makes it clear in the OT and NT that it was never primarily about the law, but about having a circumcised heart (Deu 30:6, Rom 2:29). What does that mean and how can you pursue God in this way?

  1.  How do you want to pursue Christ this week taking all his commands and our need to be in prayer and his word into account, but operating out of a circumcised heart before the Lord?
